People with serious physical illnesses are more prone to develop depression. The depression can then worsen the outcomes of the illness and increase complications. On the other hand people with depression have higher risk of developing physical illnesses. Some common illnesses and their link with depression are discussed below.
Heart Disease
Patient who have a heart attack have a 20 to 30 percent risk of developing depression. The depression can prolong and complicate the course of the illness. Treating the depression helps you to recover more easily and avoids further heart problems.

People with depression will often complain of physical symptoms of depression rather than the psychological symptoms of it. This might cause the diagnosis for depression to be harder as the physical symptoms masked the real condition of depression. Thus, if a patient come to you and present with these signs and symptoms, always remember the possibility of depression since depression is common! These symptoms include:
* Tiredness
* Memory difficulties
* Heart Symptoms
* Sensation of hot and cold
* Muscle aches and pain
* Dizziness
